Jasmine Moore of the Gators Track and Field team joined Sport Scene Tuesday to discuss her past, the upcoming NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship, her aspirations outside of track and field and more.
Moore’s Path to Florida
Moore, a Texas native, was a member of the University of Georgia track and field team prior to transferring to the University of Florida. Moore said when she entered the transfer portal, she was looking for somewhere with a supportive coaching staff, a team that works hard and a place she could see herself being happy. Florida checked all of those boxes for Moore, and she became a Gator before the 2021 season.
Cheerleader to Track Star
Before she was named the 2019 Gatorade Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year, Moore was a competitive cheerleader. She cheered from second grade through high school and decided to give track a chance because her mom jumped at Florida State University.
“I loved to tumble and flip around. I always had a bunch of energy that way,” she said.
Moore said her background in cheerleading helped her with track, noting the correlations between tumbling and jumping.
Future Aspirations
Moore will graduate from Florida in May with a degree in marketing. She said she is “super excited to be graduating from such a great business school.”
Moore said that her dream job would be to work on the marketing team of Gatorade. As previously stated, Moore was named the 2019 Gatorade Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year. She was impressed by the production that Gatorade put on for her and the other winners, and it has been a dream of hers to be on their marketing team ever since.
NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship
The 2023 Indoor Track and Field Championship is taking place on March 10 and 11. It is being hosted by the University of New Mexico and is being held at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Moore has a successful history in both indoor and outdoor events but said she does not prefer one over the other.
In the 2022 Indoor Track and Field Championship, Moore won both the long jump and triple jump events, breaking the collegiate triple jump record along the way.
Moore is excited about the upcoming championship and the opportunity to compete in a new facility.
