Gators Lacrosse Beats Furman 20-9

The No. 7 Gators lacrosse team defeated Furman University Tuesday in a midweek matchup 20-9. Danielle Pavinelli led the Gator offense, finishing the game with four goals and one assist. Pavinelli scored the game’s first two goals and finished the first quarter with four scores. She extended her point streak to 29 and her goal streak to 27.

First Quarter

The Gators started the game on a tear. Pavinelli scored first for Florida, netting one in under 90 seconds. The Gators scored the game’s first five goals before Furman was able to answer. The period ended with the Gators holding a 7-2 lead. Florida had four players record goals in the first quarter, including Emma LoPinto who extended her point streak to 23 straight games.

Second Quarter

LoPinto opened up the second quarter with a quick flurry of goals, extending the Gators’ lead to eight. Although Furman led the second quarter in shot attempts, Florida outscored the Paladins 4-2. The team took an 11-4 lead into halftime.

Third Quarter

The third quarter was much like the first two: Florida scored four quick goals to grow its lead. The Gators made several second half substitutions, allowing younger players to shine in the second half. Emerson Cabrera and Giana Monaco both scored their first goals of the season. Florida outscored Furman 4-2 in the third, finishing the quarter with a 15-6 lead.

Fourth Quarter

Florida scored another five goals in the fourth, pushing its lead to double-digits. Jenny Woolings, Kaala Puglisi, Whitney Albert and Madison Reilly all scored for the first time this season. The game wrapped with a final score of 20-9 and the team improved its record to 2-2 this season.
