Standings
Despite the win, the Lightning have lost three of their last five games and are sitting in third place in the Atlantic Division behind the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs. Washington sits in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division Standings.
Recent Success
Over the past three seasons, the Lightning have been the team to beat in the NHL. The team won the Stanley Cup in back-to-back seasons in 2020 and 2021, defeating the Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadians. Last season, Tampa made it back to the Stanley Cup Final but was defeated by the Colorado Avalanche in six games.
The Capitals have not missed the playoffs since 2015, but have struggled in the postseason recently. In their last four playoff appearances, Washington has been knocked out in the first round.
A look ahead
On Tuesday, the Lightning will host the Dallas Stars with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
For the Caps, they’ll travel to Sunrise, Florida, Tuesday to take on the Florida Panthers at 7 p.m.
