The Tampa Bay Rays will face the Cleveland Guardians in the Wild Card round of the MLB playoffs. The winner of that series will take on the New York Yankees in the AL Division Series.
Before that, though, the Rays will finish their regular season Wednesday night. The Rays are looking to avoid a sweep by the Boston Red Sox and build some momentum heading into the playoffs. First pitch is Wednesday at 4:10 p.m.
Rays Final Series of the Season
In their final series of the regular season, the Rays dropped the first two games to the Red Sox. Tampa has lost eight of its last ten games and is in dire need of a positive ending to this season. Although their playoff spot is locked in no matter Wednesday’s outcome, a victory would be a confidence-booster entering into plays.

Wild Card Spot Clinched
In a wild card race that was only separated by a few games, the Rays snagged the last playoff spot in the American League. This is their fifth winning season in a row, as they look to make some noise in the playoffs.
The Rays had many ups and downs throughout the season. In their last 30 games, the Rays lost 18, including four straight. With a handful of losses coming in the last month, Tampa made its way down to the bottom of the playoff picture. It was in tight battle with the Blue Jays and Mariners, but with a 7-3 win over the Astros, Tampa secured its spot.

Playoffs Begin Friday
This will be the Rays second wild card appearance in the last three seasons.
Tampa won its 2020 wild card series against the Toronto Blue Jays, 2-0, and finishing this season with the third wild card spot will give it a first round matchup against the Cleveland Guardians.
The two met last week in a three-game series, where the Guardians finished 2-1.
For the Rays, Harold Ramirez is leading the team with a .303 batting average, and Isaac Paredes and Randy Arozarena are tied for a team-high 20 home runs.
