Gators soccer prepares for home match against Georgia

The University of Florida soccer team continues play in the Southeastern Conference as it takes on the University of Georgia Bulldogs at home on Sept. 25.

Florida (2-7, 0-2 SEC) and Georgia (7-3, 1-1 SEC) last met in 2021, with the Bulldogs walking away victorious 4-3. Over their lengthy history, the Gators lead 30-4-3.

The Gators are coming off a 1-0 loss against No. 13 Mississippi.

While the Gators came out strong in the first half, they could not manage to put the ball in the back of the net. Florida goalie Alexa Goldberg kept the Gators in the game with some last-minute saves.

Going into halftime, the game remained scoreless. However, in the 52nd minute, Ole Miss capitalized on a corner kick, giving them the sole goal of the game.

Heading into Sunday’s game, the Bulldogs are coming on a 1-0 loss against South Carolina. A late goal, in the 82nd minute, secured the win for the Gamecocks.

Both Florida and Georgia are led by first-year coaches and will want to take the win in this SEC matchup.

Going forward, Florida head coach Samantha Bohon said they are “just trying to continue to keep getting better and better from each team.”

The match is set for Sept. 25 at noon in Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
