The Gators will be playing Jacksonville University, FSU, USF, Saint Leo, UCF, North Florida and the College of Central Florida. All of the games will take place at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, while the UCF game will be in Orlando. Admission is free and open to the public for all exhibition games this fall.
Among the exhibition games, the team has also released the dates for the Orange and Blue series, which will be from Nov. 28- Dec. 1.
Gators Softball has been SEC Regular Season Champions nine times and are currently coming off their 11th appearance in the Women’s College World Series with their 10th consecutive top 10 national finish. The team has a few newcomers this season, adding to the 16 returning players on the roster. NFCA All-American Skylar Wallace is among those returning.
Heartbreaker for Gators Softball
The last game for the Gators’ 2022 season was in the 2022 Women’s college World Series. The series started for Florida on June 2 against Oregon State. The Gators won and moved onto Oklahoma State only to lose 0-2. On June 5, the Gators lost 0-8 to UCLA, their series and season cut short.
Although the Gators had a successful season, ending with a 49-18 record, their last game didn’t end pretty. The Bruins run-ruled Florida in six innings with the Gators unable able to get past UCLA’s starting pitcher Holly Azevedo. The fourth inning was where it all fell apart. Skylar Wallace allowed many mistakes that led to the Bruins to take a 4-0 lead. The Gators were also held to only two hits, both of which were by Charla Echols and Cheyenne Lindsey.
Looking Ahead
Entering the new season, the Florida Gators had three signees on Signing Day, Olivia Gigante, Kaila Pollard and Samantha Roe. Gigante was 2021 League MVP, Pollard is 2021 Alliance Fastpitch 18U National Champion and Roe is a 2021 Gatorade Player of the Year Nominee. A lot of fresh talent coming to the swamp this season.
