Eight SEC Teams in AP Poll

Following the AP Top 25 Football Poll we can see that there is a total of eight SEC Football teams on the list with three of those teams in the top 10.

Alabama, Georgia and Texas A&M in the Top 10

The University of Alabama has an astounding football program. They are currently ranked No. 1 on the AP Poll and have been ranked No.1 around 60 times in the last decade. They also have a total of 29 SEC Football Championships. Last week they played against Utah State and won 55-0.

Coming up second on the list are the Georgia Bulldogs who played against Alabamas Crimson Tide in the 2021 SEC Football Championship and lost. In 2021, they were 14-1 and won a national championship. In total, they have 13 SEC Championships which makes them second overall after Alabama. They played against Oregon last week and won 39-3.

Ranked No. 6 on the AP Poll is Texas A&M. In total during 2021 they earned a total of 352 points for their team. Controversial opinion but 1939 seemed to be their best season of all time. They were ranked No. 1 on the AP Poll and also won the first Sugar Bowl in Texas A&M history. Texas beat Sam Houston last week 31-0.

What other teams were listed on the AP Poll?

Coming in ranked No. 12 is the University of Florida. The Gators won a total of three national championships in 1996, 2006 and 2008. They have also won eight SEC Championships and produced three Heisman Trophy winners. In total, UF has won 121 times against all other Florida universities. This leads them to have a .621 winning percentage. The last game the Gators played was against Utah where they won 29-26.

Arkansas is ranked No. 16 on the list. The Razorbacks have won four division championships in 1995, 1998, 2002 and 2008. they also have one national championship overall. Last week they played against Cincinnati and won 31-24.

Ranked No. 20 is the University of Kentucky. Kentucky has had a rough start so far this season with a few players being announced as “unavailable to play” by head coach Mark Stoops. Overall, the Wildcats have two SEC Championships. Last week Kentucky played against Miami (Ohio) and will play against the Florida Gators next.

Coming in next on the list is the University of Mississippi ranked No. 22. Overall, Ole Miss has won six SEC Championships with their last win in 1963. The Rebels also have nine players and two coaches in the College Football Hall of Fame. Last Saturday they played against Troy and won 28-10.

The last college in the SEC to rank in the AP Poll is the University of Tennessee. They are currently ranked No. 24. Since 1938, they have won 13 SEC Championships with 6 national titles in Volunteer history. The last game they played against Ball State with a substantial win of 59-10.
