Gators shift focus to Alabama series with FSU game postponed

The Florida Gators baseball team rose to No. 9 as they prepared for their midweek matchup against Florida State. However, the game was postponed.

Florida vs. Florida State Game Postponed

The top-ten showdown between Florida and Florida State was postponed due to inclement weather. The rival matchup will be made up on Tuesday, May 17th.

Historically, this matchup has been very competitive. The Gators held an 11-game winning streak over the Seminoles up until 2020. However, Florida is looking to begin a new one after securing a win over the Noles in 2021.

Florida vs. Seton Hall

While the Gators secured a series victory over Seton Hall this past weekend, they dropped the final game of the series 6-4, giving the Pirates their first win of the season.

Going into this weekend’s series, second baseman Colby Halter held a 16-game hitting streak. However, the streak was snapped in the first game of the series. Halter still possesses the team’s best batting average at .391.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Halter exited the game with an injury and did not return to the lineup on Sunday. Also, catcher Mac Guscette left the first game of the series limping and did not return for the rest of the weekend. With the Florida State game getting postponed, these injured players will have time to rest and get healthy in anticipation for this weekend’s SEC series.

Gators Open SEC Play Against Alabama

This weekend, the Gators will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama in a three-day series to open this season’s SEC play. The Gators currently hold a 13-4 record this season, with nine wins at home. They are currently on a one-game losing streak and will use this conference series as an opportunity to bounce back.

The Crimson Tide holds a 12-5 record and will also enter into SEC play with this series. All of Alabama’s wins come from home games. Therefore, the Gators will look to serve Alabama their first loss at home of this season.

With no action until this weekend, Florida will look to focus on this upcoming SEC series. The first game of this three-game series is set for Friday, March 18 at 7 p.m.
