Santa Fe College Women’s Basketball Falls To Tallahassee Community College

The Santa Fe Saints women’s basketball team was defeated by the Tallahassee Community College Eagles 67-54.

The Saints were able to start the first quarter strong with a small lead. The Eagles responded by quickly closing the gap and staying in control of the lead for the remainder of the game. Despite outrebounding the Eagles, the Saints were not able to get the win.  “We out rebounded them by 10, but a lot of them were offensive rebounds. Defensively, we need to at least double their rebounds,” said Saints coach Chanda Stebbins.

The Tallahassee CC Eagles traveled to Gainesville for their first game on the road. The conclusion of Tuesday’s game gave them their fourth straight win of the season and an overall record of 4-1. Coach Matt Huddleston’s team limited the Saints to no more than 13 points each quarter.

New Season, New Adjustments

The Saints had only four players return for the 2019-2020 season and the offense in this game struggled.  “We got so flustered with our offense not going well that we didn’t continue to play defense. We’ve got a lot of freshman and just teaching them that the offense will come if they keep defending,” coach Stebbins said.

“We knew coming into this season that we may not be the best shooting team, we’ve still got to find better ways to score. You know we missed seven or eight easy shots in the first half. We’re a little bit undersized so if were not gonna be really mean and really dunk it in there were gonna have a tough time. I wold have liked to see them start the first quarter with that same mentality they used in the fourth quarter. a little bit tougher,” Stebbins explained.

The game leaders were Aleisha Curry with 16 points and 14 rebounds and Zoe Alexander who added nine points and 12 rebounds.

Coming Up Next

The Saints will play their next game against Impact Academy in Ocala on Friday, November 15 at noon. The Santa Fe Women’s Basketball tweeted a video of Carla Soto and Chardell Jones interviewing each other for their upcoming game.
