Serena Williams Fights Back to Reach Wimbledon Semi-Finals

As Wimbledon 2018 enters its last days, Serena Williams was put to the test against Italy’s Camila Giorgi.

The seven-time champion dropped her first set 6-3 to Giorgi but came back to win the remaining two 6-3 and 6-4, which will send her to the semi-finals for the 11th time.

Giorgi delivered three aces in the first set. Her near 120 mph serves sent Williams scrambling. In the second set, Williams figured out how to break the serve of her opponent and was able to match her intensity. Giorgi began to struggle getting the ball over the net due to Williams’ tough serve game. Williams lost only 9 more points on serve and finished with three love holds.

In an interview after the match, Williams said she knew it was going to be a tough match.

This is only Williams fourth tournament back after giving birth to her first child. Williams was out for 16 months and she feels she still has a long way to go.

Williams will enter the semifinals as the lowest ranked player at #181.

Williams will face Julia Goerges in the semi-finals.
