Auburn Having Breakout Men Hoop’s Season

Auburn has left its basketball critics far behind this season. The Tigers entered the basketball season unranked, but they are now ranked in the 12th spot in the AP poll and number one in the SEC standings. Auburn currently has a 24-4 record and 13-3 in conference record. The only four losses the Tigers took this year were to Temple 88-74, Alabama 76-71, Texas A & M 81-80, and South Carolina 84-75. If Auburn can manage to beat the Gators on Saturday then they will clinch the SEC regular season title. However, it’s not that easy. Auburn hasn’t beaten the Florida Gators in Gainesville since 1996 and the last time they defeated Florida in the regular season was back in 1999.

Team Stats

The Tigers put up on average 85 points on opponents, which is the 10th best in the nation and they allow about 73 points a game.

Both guards, Bryce Brown and Mustapha Heron have done a nice job leading the team in points per game this season, both averaging about 16 points.

DeSean Murray has been leading the Tigers in rebounds, averaging seven a game.

Auburn coach Bruce Pearl has been named a semifinalist for the Werner Ladder Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year award.  Pearl is one of 10 coaches up for the award. If the Tigers perform strong during March Madness, Pearl should have a good a shot at winning.

Next Game

Auburn takes on the Gators in Gainesville Saturday (2/23/18) at 8:30 P.M. on the SEC Network.
