Ole Miss Auburn Revenge Match in Oxford

Its been 10 years since the Auburn Tigers have won in Oxford. But with the Tigers ranked No. 1 in the SEC with a record that already saw them beat the Rebels 85-70 at home, tonight that could all change.

Auburn On its Way Up

The Tigers have had a successful season under head coach Bruce Pearl. They just moved up eight spots to No. 11 in the NCAA overall standings this week. So far they have yielded an overall record of 19-2 and an SEC record of 7-1, having only fallen to Alabama and Temple. The have won 15 of their last 16 games and are averaging 86 points per game. They have also scored 50 points in a half 10 times this season. Auburn is also shooting 78.5 percent from the free throw line this season, making it their second-highest free throw percentage in team history.

Coming off of Saturday’s win against LSU,  Auburn has a 12-game win streak at home, making it the fifth longest home streak in program history and making them the only SEC team to still be undefeated at home. The Rebels need to watch out for Desean Murray, who puts up 11.4 points and rebounds a game. Additionally on Monday, Mustapha Heron was announced as SEC Player of the Week for the second time this season.

It’s also worth making note of that Auburn’s new athletic director Allen Greene previously worked in Ole Miss athletics.

Rebels Trying to Extend Auburn Home Streak

The Rebels have struggled this season on the road, most recently falling to Texas 72-85. They have an overall record of 11-10 and an SEC record of 4-4.  One factor definitely working in the Rebels’ favor was leading scorer Deandre Burnett’s absence from their first loss against Auburn. He averages 15.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists and in his last two games he has scored at least 20 points. Other Ole Miss players to watch are Bruce Stevens and Terence Davis. The Rebels are also trying to extend what is a seven-game win streak at home.
