No. 4 Gator Volleyball Takes Care of South Carolina

Friday night was the 50th time Florida volleyball coach Mary Wise has seen her Florida Gators team defeat South Carolina.

Wise says that the reason for her 50-2 record against the Gamecocks comes down to the talent and consistency her program has had over the years.

There is no doubt about the talent as Florida defeated South Carolina in three sets. Shainah Joseph led the charge for the Gators as she had a team-leading 13 kills. Florida had 10 total team blocks versus the Gamecocks’ five.

Making Big Plays

Joseph has been a big part of Florida’s success this season and she showed why once again on Friday night. Wise said she has seen Joseph working hard and said that it’s her athletic ability that makes her so special.

Joseph says one of the reasons for her excellent play has been her focusing more on the little things.

Taking Care of MiKayla

Going into the match, Wise talked about her team having to make sure South Carolina sophomore MiKayla Shields didn’t beat them. The Gators did just that as they held her to only two kills and five digs.

Florida prepared a lot for Shields which Wise says that is one of the greatest respects you can give to a player.

The Start of Something Big?

The Gators looked prime to enter another big winning streak like the one they had to start the season. With three in the row already in the bag, Florida is rolling. Carli Snyder says that the loss to Kentucky a few weeks ago actually gave her team a ton of momentum.

It all gets started at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN 98.1 FM/850 AM WRUF and on SEC Network+.
