Chauncey Gardner: Focused on the Game

It’s Just a Game

With the upcoming rivalry against the Georgia Bulldogs coming up this Saturday, the University of Florida football team is looking to improve their 3-3 season with a win. Although all Gator fans are disappointed with the team’s play this  season, some have taken it too far.  Head Coach Jim McElwain stated that he, his family and players have received death threats because of the recent losses.  Sophomore Chauncey Gardner was quick to remind everyone that this is just a football game. Gardner made a point to imply that the comments are not going to affect the team going forward.

The Underdogs

“Oh Florida this, Florida that. We’ve been the underdog since the first game of the season, whole season can these guys get back to Atlanta. We’ve been shocking everybody wrong, proving everybody wrong but were not like I said this underdog role that’s just a word to us. Especially for me, I just want to go out there and play football and if you’re better than us prove it if you’re not just keep it pushing.” Gardner knows that his team has more to offer than what they have been showing recently, and will not let the negativity from fans affect their game.

Florida vs. Georgia

The Gators safety doesn’t seemed phased by Georgia’s undefeated season going into this game. Gardner believes that his team has “one of the best defenses in the SEC.”  This should help prevent Georgia from racking up points like they have in their previous games. When asked about Georgia’s quarterback, Gardner makes it clear that they are not intimidated by what he has done or what he can do.  “He’s throwing simple passes.  I get it. Anybody can throw a slant.” He is keeping things simple by just focusing on the game and going and doing what he does best–Just playing football.
