Top Teams Fall, Saban Rolls On

Week 7 of the College Football season proved that Alabama is head and shoulders above the nation’s competition again. They rolled through an inferior Arkansas team 41-9. Alabama’s defense allowed only 3 field goals, while scoring over 40 points.

The rest of the top ten teams didn’t have it so easy. Four top ten teams failed to get the job done against lesser competition. Alabama head coach Nick Saban says those top teams lose these types of games because they allow themselves to be distracted.

Alabama’s in-state rival Auburn dropped their game against Ed Orgeron’s Tigers. Auburn was ranked 10 last week, and looked to be one of the few SEC squads with a fighting chance against Alabama. Alabama squares off with Auburn in the Iron Bowl in the last week of the season, but their hopes are certainly deflated.

Other notable loses came from Washington State, Washington, and Clemson. Clemson might be the only other football team people were giving a chance against Alabama. A year ago they beat Alabama on the last play of the National Championship. Unfortunately for Clemson, this week they were stunned and dropped a game to Syracuse.

College Football: A Contest for Second Place

All year it has been a contest for second place. Alabama is a lock every year for the College Football Playoff. This year is no different. They are a well-oiled football machine that refuses to be distracted by off the field issues. Nick Saban gave his team credit this weekend for tuning out the noise. He thinks that the media is distracting, but also affords his team publicity and exposure, which he thanked them for this weekend. Nothing is more important than winning for Saban, and he will do everything in his power to eliminate distractions from his team.

The comment was followed by the caveat that he doesn’t always like what they have to say about his team.
