Buchholz Bobcats Host Belleview Rattlers

The Buchholz Bobcats will play the Belleview Rattlers Thursday, September 28th at Citizen field in Gainesville.

Buchholz has a current overall record of 1-3. Their losses are against Vanguard, Colombia, and just last week, Fleming Island. Their only victory has been against Eastside, their first game of the season.

When asked about the huge lose against Fleming Island, a team that shut out Buchholz 27-0, head coach Mark Whittemore credits much of the defeat to his injured players. Junior quarterback Cam Orth has been inactive due to a hand injury that he suffered in a loss to Vanguard.  Fleming Island outside linebacker Jackson Bull intercepted Buchholz Trent Whittemore’s throw at the Golden Eagles 2-yard line to preserve the hosts’ 14-0 lead going into halftime. Trent Whittemore is a UF Gator football commit.

Belleview Presents a Challenge

On the other hand, Belleview has a much better overall record of 3-1. Belleview’s first district game is against Buchholz on Thursday. Their wins are against Trinity Catholic, Lake Weir, and Palatka. The Rattlers suffered a 24-17 loss against Dunnellon last week. Despite the fact that Belleview quarterback Cory Wilsher completed 19 out of 34 passes, two of which were touchdowns and player Dez Daily had two interception, they still lost the game. Coach Michael Kelly credits the loss to the lack of practice time due to Hurricane Irma.

Buchholz coach Mark Whittemore has good things to say about Belleview and is excited to play them. He says that John Rant, who took the program over last year, has built a much improved program. Whittemore comments on Belleviews key players and their competitive offense.

The teams will face off this Thursday night.
