The top two teams in last week’s poll, number one Minnesota and number two Penn State both experienced losses this weekend. But the Gators, who were previously ranked third, triumphed last weekend against Arkansas. Florida earned this high honor back in 2010 and 1996, previously. However, this is the earliest in a season the Gators have risen to the top. Back in 2010, Florida was number one the week of October 11th and continued to stay there for eight consecutive polls. In 1996, Florida sat atop the poll on November 5 and remained there for another four polls.
Gator Volleyball this Season
The Gators are having an incredible start to the season with a perfect record (9-0). Florida has not had this kind of success at the beginning of the season since 2007. As of now, they are among three other teams with an undefeated record in the University of Miami, Towson and James Madison.
Not only are they undefeated, but the Gators are also one of the two teams in the entire nation with four wins over top 20-opponents. There has only been four teams in the last 21 years to embark on a season with consecutive victories over top-five teams and Florida accomplished that earlier this year.
