After a slow start in which the Rays trailed 1-0, Evan Longoria’s two run homer gave the Rays a lead in the sixth inning they would not relinquish. During the seventh, Steven Souza Jr. hit his 21st homer off of former Gator Darren O’Day and the Rays added two insurance runs in the eighth to seal the win. Logan Morrison was able to help Tampa Bay by getting an RBI single off of Zach Britton.
This was the second consecutive win for Tampa after coming off a rough five game losing streak. The Rays currently have an overall record of 53-39 and are third in the American League East.
What’s Next for the Rays?
Tampa Bay sets out for an eight game road-trip. Tomorrow starts the first of a four-game series against the Yankees. This is an important trip for the Rays because four games will also be played in Houston against the Astros.
Monday also is the trade deadline in baseball and we’ll see if the Rays will make any moves to bolster their roster.
