Florida Pitcher Alex Faedo signs with Detroit Tigers

University of Florida’s right-handed pitcher, Alex Faedo, agreed to terms with the Detroit Tigers, earlier this week. Faedo was selected as the No. 18 overall pick in the first round of the 2017 MLB Draft. While the slot value for the N0. 18 overall pick is at a little over $3.2 million, the terms of the contract have not yet been released.

On Wednesday afternoon, Faedo was at Comerica Park. In a tweet by the Detroit Tigers, Faedo expressed his excietment to be part of the organization.

According to reports, Faedo will not be pitching this upcoming season for the Tigers to rest his arm.

Faedo’s Last season in Florida

The 2017 College World Series Most Outstanding Player had an incredible season going 9-2 with a 2.26 ERA in 20 games for the Gators and notching 157 strikeouts and issuing only 42 walks. Faedo continued dominating in the post season going 2-0 with 0.33 ERA in five games of the NCAA Tournament. With a fantastic season, Faedo helped Florida land the program’s first national championship. Ending the season on a high note, Faedo forwent his senior year at Florida to start his professional career.

In his 10 years of coaching at Florida, Kevin O’Sullivan has had seven players drafted in the first round (at least one in the last three years).  In the 103 years of the program’s history, 19 Gators have been selected in the first round of the MLB draft, according to FloridaGators.com.
