The fall season wrapped up this past weekend for the Florida Gators women’s tennis team where they split up and competed in two tournaments.
In Flushing, NY there was the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, where ninth-ranked Belinda Woolcock dropped a 7-6 (6), 6-2 quarterfinal decision in the singles consolation bracket to St. John’s Jessica Livianu.
Florida was more successful in Lakewood Ranch, FL as Anna Danilina finished the weekend raising two trophies. She took home the singles and doubles title at the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic on Sunday.
Danilina rode a first-round bye into the quarterfinals. Once there, she dropped just one set en route to the singles title. During Sunday’s finals, she swept Virginia Tech’s Elena Cerezo-Codina, 6-3, 6-4.
Doubles
In doubles, Spencer Liang teamed up with Danilina and took home that title with a 8-3 victory over Clemson’s Constanza Gorches and Fernando Navarro.
Head coach Roland Thornqvist could only say good things about the improvements made by Danilina, Liang, and Woolcock.
