Frank Vogel and Magic Still Searching for First Win

Frank Vogel came in hot this summer as the new head coach for the Orlando Magic with plenty of expectations. But early on, the former Indiana Pacers coach is still seeking his first win. Trying to avoid a dreaded 0-4 start, the Orlando Magic play tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers. Magic fans however have to wonder if their defense and Vogel can bounce the team back to where they need to be.

Fearless Vogel

Slow beginnings are nothing to Vogel. If anything, it could be a good sign. He’s dealt with them time and time again, especially last season. With Indiana, he started 0-3 and still made the playoffs. The Pacers took Toronto to a Game 7 in the first round of the playoffs. Last season, only four teams made it to the playoffs after having a 0-3 start. Guard Evan Fournier also says that it just takes a while for the team to find its rhythm.

The Magic will be missing Jodie Meeks and he doesn’t even expect to be back at practice for a few more weeks. Stephen Zimmerman is expected to play on Friday but will still be considered inactive for the game Tuesday night.

Philly’s Hopes

The 76ers looked somewhat promising after beating the Miami Heat in the preseason. As most preseason’s go though, it didn’t really mean much. Philly is 0-2 on their season, so this game is just as important. The 76ers are putting all the eggs in one basket. Joel Embiid is their saving grace, and the only one at that. He’s expected to play Tuesday night’s game, but is still uncertain for the one after that. As far as Philly’s injury report, Ben Simmons long-term absence certainly isn’t helping. But good news for the Magic, none the less. Jodie Meek, Jerryd Bayless, Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor are also all expected to miss.

Key Starters

PG Elfrid Payton, SG Evan Fournier, SF Aaron Gordon, PF Serge Ibaka, C Nikola Vucevic are all expected to start tonight for the Magic at 7 p.m., in Philadelphia.
