The Florida Gator football team moved up four spots in the AP Poll to number 10 this week. The Gators took down Georgia at Everbank Field 24-10. The Gators are preparing for an SEC West match up with the Arkansas Razorbacks this weekend. When asked what he thought about moving up to No. 10, Head Coach Jim McElwain says that if you take care of business on Saturdays people will take notice.
Georgia
The now 6-1 Gators handed Georgia their fourth loss of the season this weekend. The Gators held Georgia’s freshman quarterback Jacob Eason to 164 yards. McElwain says that was a good win for the team, Georgia is a great team with great players. McElwain also praised the performance of punter Johnny Townsend. He said that he feels that Townsend doesn’t get all the credit that he deserves but he will be a punter at the next level. His operation time was really good even when Georgia did some overload things. Lastly, reflecting on Georgia, McElwain stated that Jeremy Foley had a great speech in the locker room as his last Florida Georgia game as Florida’s Athletic Director.
Injuries
The injury report this week wasn’t as lengthy as usual. McElwain praised upperclassmen Cox, Ivey and Sherrit for pushing through their injuries and making some big plays this weekend. Jarrad Davis felt okay after the game, and Goolsby played some reps with a messed up hand. Justice Reed and Kalif should be back for Arkansas and the rest of the guys should be okay.
Arkansas
This weekend the Gators will travel to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks. This match up is between the SEC east and the SEC west. The Razorbacks are 5-3 and ranked No. 5 in the SEC west. The last game they played was a 56-3 loss to Auburn two weeks ago and will be coming off a bye this weekend. McElwain says they are very physical and sound on both sides of the ball, the Gators need to be right, and he is looking forward to this weeks preparation. Arkansas is an SEC opponent and even being in different divisions they have to be seen as that. The Gators and Razorbacks will face off in Arkansas Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
