Gators Break Into Top 10 in AP Poll

The Florida Gator football team made major moves this weekend.

After beating out the Georgia Bulldogs in the annual rivalry game in Jacksonville, the Gators broke back into the top 10 of the AP College Football Poll. Their 24-10 win over Georgia helped them to jump four spots to No. 10.

The Gators also maintained control of the SEC East and continues to sit at number one in the standings. Florida head coach Jim McElwain said Saturday was their statement. With hopes of making it to SEC Championship for the second year in a row, the road leads through Jacksonville.

The defense asserted their dominance once again.

Next up the Gators will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to play the Razorbacks team on Saturday. It could be one of the two wins that Florida needs to seal the SEC East.

Despite criticism of the offense and schedule strength, McElwain stood by his team after the game and said that they will do what they have to do to get it done.

Work to be Done

But questions still arise if Florida’s offense will be able to put enough points on the board to win games.

Saturday proved that even without running backs Mark Thompson and Jordan Cronkrite (both out due to disciplinary reasons) the Gators are fine relying on underclassmen Jordan Scarlett and Lamical Perine to carry the ball.

Another notable against Georgia was quarterback Luke Del Rio’s performance.Del Rio was 60 percent passing and threw for 131 total yards. He and the Florida offense went 9-for-18 on third down, 3-for-3 on scoring touchdowns in the red zone and held the ball for more than 37 minutes of the game clock.

A match up with South Carolina, Florida State and LSU awaits Florida in November. Only time will tell if the Gators are able to clinch the division and win out to Atlanta.
