A week after Steve Spurrier was awarded the first Heisman trophy in Florida history, the No. 7 Gators entered their meeting with Georgia with a 7-0 mark. On this day the Dawgs shut the Heisman winner down as Spurrier completed 16 of 29 passes for 133 yards and three interceptions.

The Bulldogs won 27-10 and Florida’s National Championship hopes had flown out the window. They finished right behind Georgia in the SEC standings as the Bulldogs were named Co-Conference Champions with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
