What Happened:
A year after the second ever tie between the two teams, Florida had proved they could hold their own against Georgia. Ever since the Hunsinger game, the Gators had won 12 of the last 20 contests.
In the 1970 meeting, Florida’s resiliency in the rivalry was physically embodied in the play of star defensive end Jack Youngblood. With the Dawgs up 17-10 in the fourth quarter, they were on the Florida two-yard line and looking to put the game away. Youngblood, however, would not give up.
He ripped the ball right out of running back Ricky Lake’s hands and gave the Gators a fighting chance to still win the game. Youngblood’s fumble recovery would be critical, as Florida scored two touchdowns in the final five minutes to defeat the Dawgs 24-17.
