Winning Streak Prior to Game: Georgia (seven)
Effect on SEC Race: None
Effect on National Landscape: None
What Happened:
Coming into this meeting, Florida had been outscored 253-47 and shut out twice in their previous seven games against the Bulldogs. On that fateful November 5th, however, the Gators finally prevailed. Led by senior running back Chuck Hunsinger, the Orange and Blue romped the Dawgs 28-7.
Hunsinger played like a man possessed. He had 18 rushing attempts for a total of 174 yards and three touchdowns. Georgia’s seven-game winning streak had finally been broken! It proved to be Florida’s only SEC win of 1949 and perhaps the most memorable victory of head coach Raymond “Bear” Wolf’s tenure at Florida. Wolf was fired after the season.
