The Fort White Indians (6-2) will host the Hawthorne Hornets (5-2) in a district matchup.
The contest between the Indians and Hornets marks the last district game for each team. Both teams are part of district 1A. Fort White is looking to close out district play undefeated with a home win versus the Hornets. The Indians are currently in first place and 3-0 in conference with wins over Baldwin, Hilliard, and Union County. In those three district games the Fort White Indians have outscored their opponents 106-29. The Hawthorne Hornets on the other hand are 1-2 in district play with a win over Hilliard, but losses to Baldwin and Union County.
Fort White Indians
The Fort White Indians were projected to dominate the class 1A after they dropped from class 4A last season. They have lived up to expectations so far including wins against 5A district opponents Suwannee and Eastside. The Indians have predicated this season’s run off stout defense. Fort White’s Corey Dryden leads the team in total tackles on the year averaging 12.5 tackles per contest. The Indians also have a very opportunistic defense intercepting 10 passes and causing 11 fumbles on the season.
Hawthorne Hornets
The Hawthorne Hornets did not come into the year with the highest of expectations with a 1-9 season just a few years ago. The Hornets look to finish the year above .500, as they look to build themselves into a team that can rival other schools in the conference. The Hornets are lead by the senior quarterback Tazmin James, who is averaging 170 passing yards a game and has 18 touchdowns.
Kick off is at 7:30 p.m. at Fort White.
