The South Carolina Gamecocks (2-4) play the University of Massachusetts Minutemen (1-6) on Saturday in South Carolina.
The Minutemen have struggled so far and are on a four-game losing streak. Quarterback Andrew Ford has thrown for 1,117 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions so far this season. Receiver Andy Isabella has contributed five touchdowns so far this season but so far that hasn’t been enough for the Minutemen to find success.
The South Carolina Gamecocks have also struggled to find their footing this season. Quarterback Perry Orth has only one win out of the three games he’s played so far this season, with no touchdowns and two interceptions.
Head coach Will Muschamp started quarterback Brandon McIlwain in the other three games this season, but the offense still hasn’t been able to get much done. Muschamp said all three quarterbacks have been in rotation at practice.
South Carolina hasn’t won since their third game of the season and will need their offense to step up this Saturday.
Last Week
The UMass Minutemen fell to Louisiana Tech last week 56-28. QB Andrew Ford had three touchdowns and one interception. Running back Marquis Young ran in a touchdown for the Minutemen in the first quarter to even the score 7-7, but it still wasn’t enough. UMass also recovered three of Louisiana’s fumbles, but the Minutemen weren’t able to come out with a victory.
The Gamecocks played the Georgia Bulldogs last Sunday after it was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew. The Bulldogs defeated the Gamecocks 28-14. The two touchdowns for the Gamecocks didn’t come until the second half. Running backs Deebo Samuel and Rico Dowdle each ran one in. The Gamecocks also fumbled three times and lost two of them. The Gamecocks will look to correct these mistakes on Saturday.
Kickoff is at noon on Saturday on the SEC Network.
