Buchholz Football to Host Fleming Island Friday Night

Buchholz High School is heading into their final two district games, beginning Friday night with Fleming Island. The Bobcats have a perfect 2-0 home record and are 4-2 overall. Head coach Mark Whittemore says coming into the season, they knew they would have a stout defense.

Buchholz has fought hard this season, only registering losses to Vanguard and a double overtime loss to Gainesville High School. Their stats are above the national averages in interceptions (11), sacks (11), tackles (82.8 p/g), and receiving yards (186.7 p/g). Whittemore credits much of this success to their pass rush efficiency and their sophomore quarterback Camden Orth.

The Fleming Island Golden Eagles have seen similar success. They come into Friday’s game with a 1-2 district record, coming off a home win over Creekside last weekend. However, their overall record mirrors Buchholz’s at 4-2. Whittemore says his Bobcats will need to prepare for Fleming Island’s strong running game if they want to win.

With the regular season wrapping up, a win for Buchholz would help them secure the district championship. But a loss would put all the pressure on their final district game against Creekside on October 28th. Friday’s kickoff time is set for 7 p.m. at Buchholz.
