With back-to-back wins behind them, the No. 9 Florida Gator Volleyball team heads back on the road for a weekend of SEC play. The Gators will face off against LSU Friday night with only a day off before the take on Texas A&M.
The History
Florida hasn’t lost to LSU since the 2009 season, when the Tigers defeated them twice in the season. When the two teams met up last season in Baton Rouge, Florida left with a clean sweep (25-22, 25-20, 25-13).
Texas A&M, on the other hand, snapped Florida’s 11-match win streak against the Aggies last November. Both teams met twice last season. The Gators defeated the Aggies in Gainesville last October, 3-0 (25-9, 25-23, 25-18). Texas A&M turned the tables on Florida a month later, when they defeated the Gators 2-3 (20-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-11).
This Weekend
Florida (14-2, 4-1 SEC) and LSU (7-10, 2-4 SEC) are both looking to extend their win streak to three on Friday night. The Gators last two wins came from matches against Tennessee and South Carolina. LSU took home wins from Ole Miss and Georgia.
For Florida head coach Mary Wise, LSU’s last two matches prove the team could be a challenge.
On Sunday, the Gators and Aggies (10-6, 4-1 SEC) will play a match to determine who takes the number three spot in the conference. Both teams are entering the weekend tied for third. Texas A&M has won their last four matches of the season.
With three weeks of SEC play behind, Coach Wise feels her team is at the point where they’re ready for this weekend’s challenge.
