JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—After an offseason full of praise around their draft class, the Jaguars continue to not live up to the hype. On Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens made the trip to the sunshine state and edged past Jacksonville, 19-17.
It was a rough start for both teams as their offenses went back-and-forth trading three-and-out situations.
Quarterback Joe Flacco and the Baltimore offense began to find holes in the Jacksonville defense and from that point forward—The Ravens started to fly down field.
Nearing an NFL record, Flacco made 21 consecutive completed passes. The seasoned quarterback went on to throw a total of 214 yards…completing 29 of his 40 pass attempts.
The Jaguars defense stood tall after getting settled and adjusting to the Ravens’ offensive game-plan. They recorded two sacks on Flacco and intercepted him twice. But, the defense forcing three-and-outs and looking heroic wouldn’t be enough—Because the object of the game is to score.
Jacksonville’s quarterback Blake Bortles completed 24 of his 38 passes which tallied up to be a total of 194 yards—Along with three interceptions. Having a running game allows the offensive game-plan to open up. It spreads the defense and keeps them guessing for what’s next. Between Blake Bortles, T.J. Yeldon and Chris Ivory, the Jaguars rushed for 48 yards—The entire game. Bortles takes the blame for the offense’s lack of productivity.
Since both offenses couldn’t get much going, it’s only right that this game came down to a field goal.
Ravens’ star kicker, Justin Tucker nailed a 54-yarder with 1:02 remaining in the game to lift his team over Jacksonville.
Baltimore went on to improve to a 3-0 record for the first time since 2009. Jacksonville dropped to 0-3 record for the third time in the past four seasons.
