The Friday Night Lights are heating up with a district showdown this Friday.
Newberry High School will host Chiefland in a competitive matchup. Since 2010, the Newberry Panthers have started their season with four different head coaches in the last six seasons. Usually, teams experience a transition time. This is not the case for the 4-0 Panthers. Newberry shows impressive numbers on offense, averaging 348.8 yards per game. First-year Head Coach Richard Vester credits the team’s success thus far to the caliber of his players.
The challenge to Newberry’s offensive production will be Chiefland’s defense. The Indians are 2-0 this season and 1-0 in district play. In those two games, Chiefland’s defense has only allowed six points against its opponents. However, they will need to pick up the production on offense in order to stay competitive. The Indians average about 204.5 total yards per game.
With both teams undefeated and 1-0 in district play, this game is one to watch this weekend.
Kickoff is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m.
