NL Wild Card Race Heating Up

With the 2016 MLB regular season wrapping up, there’s  still a close race for the final two wild card spots in the National League. The San Francisco Giants (77-67) and the New York Mets (77-68) are currently in position to win out the final two spots with the Giants leading the Mets by half a game. The St. Louis Cardinals (76-68) are not too far behind, only half of a game behind the Mets.

The Giants may hold a slight lead for the top wild card slot, but standings could change by time post season play arrives.  The Giants has won only five of their last ten games and is on a two game losing streak. The Giants will look to end their two game skid when they host the San Diego padres (61-84) the game will begin at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, September 14. The Padres have won their last two games, but has been eliminated from playoff contention.

The Mets have been on an hot streak, winning eight of their last ten games. The Mets will be on the road to play the NL East leaders, the Washington Nationals (86-59) Wednesday, September 14 at 4:05 p.m. The Mets and Nationals both split a win in their last two match-ups.

The Cardinals will end their three game home stand against the NL Central leaders the Chicago Cubs (92-52) Wednesday, September 14 at 1:45 p.m. The Cardinals have won six of their last ten games and are on a one game win streak. If the Cardinals keep up their recent play while the Giants continue to take L’s, the Cardinals can find themselves in post season play and the Giants will find themselves out.

It should be an exciting finish as the 2016 regular season wraps up.
