Buchholz will go for their first district title since 2004 on Friday night.

High School Football Preview: Buchholz Takes on Columbia in Make-Up Game

As the high school football season heats up, Buchholz (1-0) and Columbia (1-1) will face off Thursday night in a non-conference match-up.  The Buchholz Bobcats have a worthy opponent in the Columbia Tigers, who were ranked as high as 5th in the state in the 7A division just a few weeks ago.  The two teams were supposed to play last Friday, but were unable due to the hurricane that came through.

The Bobcats enjoyed a 10-2 season last fall.  The Tigers had a similar season, with a 12-2 record.  Both teams were district champions.

Buchholz head coach Mark Whittemore is looking forward to the previously postponed match-up.

“As usual, you see a very athletic, talented, finely tuned, physical team. I would probably rate them as the most physical team in our area. Some would say you’re playing ‘grown man’ football out there on Thursday night at Citizens Field”, Whittemore said.
Whittemore also said he and his team have come to expect a lot of “physical toughness” from the Tigers.
As far as starting quarterbacks, Whittemore named Camden Orth to the spot for Thursday’s game.
The Bobcats and Tigers will go head-to-head at Citizens Field on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m.
