The Florida State Seminoles will kick their season off this Monday, as they take on Ole Miss in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
The No.4 Noles have named redshirt freshman Deondre Francois starting quarterback for Monday night’s game against the No.11 Rebels. Francois red shirted last season, meaning the last time that he played in an actual game was high school.
Fisher and the Noles believe this game against a top notch non-conference opponent is necessary with the College Football Playoff in mind. Fisher explained in a press conference Monday that it benefits the team greatly to open the season against a Top 25 opponent.
What the Rebels having going for them is experience—at least in terms of their quarterback. Chad Kelly is a senior with years of playing time under his belt. Not only did he lead the SEC in passing yards last year, but his passing touchdowns doubled all returning quarterbacks.
The last time these two teams went head to head was way back in 1961. Fisher is expecting the atmosphere to be bowl-like for Monday’s game in Orlando. One thing’s for sure, it will definitely be an exciting matchup. To catch the game, tune in to ESPN at 8 p.m. Monday.
