With several local teams starting their football seasons on the traditional Fridays, the Gainesville High School Hurricanes and Columbia High School Fighting Tigers face off Thursday night in Gainesville’s very own Citizen’s field. The Tigers are a well seasoned team, as they are ranked fifth in the state in the 6A division. The Tigers have won three straight in this series and are coming off of an impressive win against Class 8A No.1 Apopka with a score of 28-21. The Tigers have won the past three match-ups in this series against the Canes averaging about 50 points in those games. Columbia has several senior standout players, including QB Davin Schuck, RB Kamario Bell, DL Robbie Moon. WR Nathan Maxwell is a good target for Schuck, where he passed for 3,786 yard and had 39 touchdowns last season.
