No. 2 ranked Florida Gymnastics will travel to Minneapolis to compete in the NCAA regional championships this Saturday. The championships are set to take place at Sports Pavilion, where each of the teams participating will hope to finish in the top-two in each of the six regional sites. The Gators are 15-2 overall and 5-2 in the SEC.
Since the NCAA began seeding regional fields in 1999, Florida has been the top seed in each of the last 11 years. Last year, they were the only team in the Minneapolis Regional field to move on to the 2015 championships.
The ladies finished up their regular season claiming their 10th overall SEC team title. A Gator claimed the SEC all-around title as well. Gator sophomores Kennedy Baker and Alex McMurtry equaled their collegiate-best all-around totals to claim top-two ranks. Baker (39.65) in first place and McMurtry(39.625) placing second. Both sophomores also picked up SEC individual titles.
These younger Gators along with the veterans are consistent and that will be one trait that will get them to the top spot in the regional. Coach Jenny Rowland has been preparing the team by reassuring them that this meet is just like any other.
Coming out on top in the regional will get the Gators one step closer to their fourth consecutive title and 16th overall regional championship.
