Florida Lacrosse is almost halfway through a five game home stand with the first two wins under their belt. After defeating Boston College on Friday, the Gators brought the heat again on Monday to beat Towson 15-7.
Florida came out strong with a 4-0 lead in the first seven minutes. Things started to heat up near the middle of the first half, as the Tigers almost brought the game to a tie at 6-5. But the Gators stepped up in the second half, holding the Tigers to only one goal.
Without Junior Mollie Stevens (due to last week’s red card), the Gators knew they had to step up their game. Redshirt Senior Nicole Graziano was a key part to the Gators’ offense, leading the team with four points. Six other players contributed to Florida’s winning score, including Sammi Burgess and Shayna Pirreca. Kaitlyn Montalbano was the leading scorer for the Tigers with three points.
Next up, Florida faces a tough competitor when they take on No. 1 Maryland on Saturday. Head coach Amanda O’Leary says the team will be working on decreasing their unforced turnovers in preparation for this weekend. Saturday’s game will begin at noon.
