Florida Lacrosse Wins First Away Game

The Florida Lacrosse team extends their early season hot streak after their win against the North Carolina Tar Heels Saturday 16-15 in Chapel Hill. The No. 8 and undefeated Gators gave the No. 2 Tar Heels their first loss of the season.

Before heading to North Carolina, the Gators beat Loyola and Michigan. They also played an exhibition game against the Wales National Team. The Tar Heels came off of a massive 20-7 win against San Diego State earlier.

In the first period, Mary-Sean did a good job defending the goal, but yellow cards were the real threat. Eight cards were given in the first period alone, four to players each team. At the half, Florida and North Carolina were tied 8-8.

Going into the second half, both teams started to score goals at will with two more yellow cards being issued.

Florida’s No. 1 2015 recruit Sydney Pirreca scored four goals for the Gators. Pirreca came into her own as she scored a team-high five goals against the Tar Heels as well as two assists.

The Gators are now 3-0 and the win against North Carolina was coach Amanda O’Leary’s 99th as Florida’s head coach. The Gators know they can’t take winning for granted as they take on Dartmouth. The match against the Big Green will be in Gainesville on Saturday at noon.
