The Alabama Crimson Tide look to extend their four-game winning streak to five as they head to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers tonight.
Tonight’s game will mark the second time the two teams face off this season. The Tigers traveled to Tuscaloosa Jan. 23 to play the Crimson Tide and left with a win, 72-70. With 32 seconds on the clock, LSU guard Tim Quarterman drove in for the layup that gave the Tigers the two point edge over the Crimson Tide.
Tigers Head Coach Johnny Jones says since the two teams last met, Alabama is showing signs of a change that is benefiting their game.
Alabama is 15-9 overall and 6-6 in the SEC, their last four wins coming from SEC match-ups. The Crimson Tide averages 68 points per game on 42.7 percent shooting and make 65 percent of their free throws. Defensively, Alabama allows their opponents to score 67 points. Senior guard Retin Obasohan leads Alabama with 383 points this season.
Crimson Tide head coach Avery Johnson says his team played a good game in January, but they need to be play stronger defensively against the Tigers.
The LSU Tigers are coming into the game 16-9 overall and 9-3 in the SEC. Averaging 81.1 points per game on 47 percent shooting, the Tigers are tied with no. 23 Kentucky for first in the SEC. Averaging 19.3 points per game, freshman forward Ben Simmons leads the Tigers in both points and rebounds this season, recording for 482 points and 301 rebounds.
Though Wednesday night’s game marks the last meeting of the two teams this regular season, the Crimson Tide and Tigers have a chance to meet in March for the 2016 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament.
