The Gators return home to face off against Arkansas State tonight at 7:00 p.m.
It has been 13 days since Florida has played on their home court. The last time the Gators were in the O’Dome, Florida played host to Savannah State and came out with a victory.
The Gators are returning to the O’Dome tonight on a six-game win streak. Florida is coming off of a much needed five-day rest after defeating South Alabama 72-60, last Tuesday.
A few Gators to watch would be junior guard/forward, Ronni Williams, who is averaging 13.8 points with 7.9 rebounds per game, and has racked up four double-doubles, this season. Sophomore forward and Ronni Williams’ post-mate, Haley Lorenzen, earned most valuable player at the Omni Hotels Classic where she compiled 26 points, 16 rebounds, and four steals. And newcomers, Eleanna Christinaki and Simone Westbrook, has led the team in assists.
Florida leads the all-time series against Arkansas State 2-0. The last meeting dates back to November 14th, 1998.
The Arkansas Red Wolves stroll into Gainesville with an impressive 4-and-1 record. The Red Wolves recently fell short to Chattanooga in the final seconds of the game. Arkansas State’s Audrea Gamble is one noted to be one of the best shooters in the country. She’s averaging 17.6 points a game, leads the team in assists with a total of 21, and has collected 15 steals. If that isn’t enough, Gamble is a two-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and is expected to win the award again this year. The Gators will have their hands full will this senior guard.
The Red Wolves are led by head coach Brian Boyer. Boyer in his sixteen years with the team, is noted to be the architect behind Arkansas States’ success. The Red Wolves have had back-to-back appearances in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship, the last two seasons.
A well-rested Florida team is looking forward to the challenge Arkansas State is prepared to put up.
