The Gators volleyball team is on fire with a seven-game winning streak. After their sweep (3-0) in Columbia over the Gamecocks, Florida is now 16-4 overall and 8-3 in the SEC. Next stop on the schedule is in Athens to face the Georgia Bulldogs. During the week Florida prepared for South Carolina and Georgia, Florida middle block Rhamat Alhassan said the team prepares for every game the same way despite the rankings.
“We don’t overlook teams. We prepare for every single team the same way, no matter who they are. They could be ranked first or they could be ranked on the bottom. We don’t look at those; we prepare for every single team the same way. We scout them the same way and do the same thing in practice.”
Georgia is ranked last in the SEC with a 0-9 record in the conference along with a 5-16 overall record. The Florida-Georgia series favors the Gators 58-9 (55-1 under Mary Wise) and they have not loss to the Bulldogs since 2008. Florida coach Mary Wise says a key loss in Georgia’s line up could give the Gators an advantage.
“Georgia’s situation, when they lost their key point scorer on the outside, it really has hurt them. We’ll look for their scores [last night] and head to Athens.
Florida is the second ranked opponent that Georgia has faced this season. Georgia will welcome Florida in Athens Sunday at 1:30 PM and live coverage will be provided at 1:20 PM on ESPN Gainesville 95.3 FM.
