There’s still some time on the calendar before the Florida women’s basketball team suits up for their season opener against Temple University on November 17th, but that’s not stopping them from giving their all on the court. Coach Amanda Butler is making sure that teaching is still on the agenda and the team remains focused.

“We’re teaching so much and we have an emphasis of the day. Our last practice on Friday, the emphasis was focus and that’s because we’re putting in new things, so our level of focus is something that has to continue to grow,” said Butler.

The Gators’ motto for the season is “want more” and that is exactly what the coaches are expecting from the players. With multiple scoring options, the Gators are continuing to impress Butler on the offensive side on the ball.

Sophomore guard Dyandria Anderson is still going above and beyond the rim… on and off the court. Junior center Tyshara Fleming, standing tall at 6-foot-four is beginning to show off her talent inside the paint.

“Dyandria Anderson just continues to be that person that shows up every day and is trying to do things right. I’ve been really pleased with Tyshara Fleming and the impact she has in the paint for us as being one of our newcomers. She’s learning a lot and I know sometimes that’s overwhelming, but she’s really gifted as a rebounder and that’s something we really need,” Butler said.

Last season, the Gators averaged 36.7 rebounds per game and their opponents averaged 37.3 rebounds per game.

Last weekend, The Gators enjoyed having one last break before the season starts, but this weekend they are looking forward to celebrating the beginning of the new season. On Saturday, the team will enjoy a meet-and-greet with fans at their Tip Off party held at Girls Place from 12-2 pm.

There’s no party like a Gator party.
