Florida Volleyball Sweeps Texas A&M

The Gator volleyball team made a comeback from a three-game losing streak by sweeping the Texas A&M Aggies 3 sets to none Friday in Gainesville. The Gators dominated the Aggies in the first set 25-9, then 25-23 in the second, and ended the game 25-18. Florida setter Mackenzie Dagostino had 43 assists on the night and says the Gators focused on the Aggies rather than their recent losses. “Definitely a really good night for the Gators. We’ve been struggling lately and I think we really came out, just saying you know, forget everything that has happened previously to this. It’s a new day it’s a new match and we’re just going to come out and play as hard as the Gators can play and I think we did just that.” Florida middle blocker Rhamat Alhassan had a career high of 18 kills and a season best .810 hitting percentage. She says during practice the team works on fundamentals such as passing which helps her to play her best offensively.

  “Definitely have to give that one to my teammates. Without their passing and without [Mackenzie] setting none of that would have ever been possible.” Florida coach Mary Wise says the team did not focus on the losses rather they focused on preparing for the Aggies. “We didn’t spend much time talking about a slump or a losing [streak]. We talked about let’s be the best version of ourselves tonight

and felt that we would be good because we had such a good week of practice.” Reflecting on Alhassan’s exceptional night, Wise says she has the unique ability to be big and fast. “To have that length and that motor…those two don’t always go together. Oftentimes you see a motor in maybe a smaller middle. That player, that Rhamat she’s got great motor and great heart.” The Gators are now 2-3 in the SEC and 10-4 overall.
