Following a statement win over a highly touted Ole Miss team, the No. 11 Florida football team looks to carry its momentum when it travels to Columbia to take on Missouri Saturday.
This isn’t just any other conference game for the Gators (5-0, 3-0). Florida has been bullied by the Tigers during each of their past two meetings.
Last year during Florida’s homecoming game, the Tigers scored 42 unanswered points and eventually took the contest 42-13.
In 2013, Florida quarterback Tyler Murphy was sacked six times as the Gators fell 36-17.
“After last year that was really like a slap in the face I mean on our home field,” said redshirt senior wide receiver Valdez Showers. “So we definitely look forward to going up there and getting everything out of this game.”
Junior running back Kelvin Taylor rushed 12 times for 56 yards in last year’s debacle against the Tigers but he isn’t dwelling on the past.
“We just playing our game this year… and we just going to take care of business,” Taylor said. “We not really worried about what happened last year, we just going to take care of business this year.
“They came in here they outplayed us, they played good,” Taylor added. “So now we just gotta practice harder, and have a great week of practice, and go up there and handle business.”
Missouri has had struggles of its own this year, especially on offense. Starting quarterback Maty Mauk is suspended and freshman Drew Lock will start against Florida after helping his team beat South Carolina last week.
Lock was 21 of 28 for 136 yards and two touchdowns but this week he faces one of the best defenses in the country in Florida.
This game is also an important one in the SEC East; with a win, Florida can really distance itself from other SEC East contenders with just two more division games left…against Georgia and at South Carolina.
