Jordan celebrates with team after scoring nation leading 13th goal Despite an aggressive offensive attack the Gator soccer team only scored one goal as they tied the Kentucky Wildcats 1-1 Friday night. This was Florida’s first tie of the season and Kentucky’s
second. The Gators outshot the Wildcats 12-2 in the first half, but were only able to score one goal. In the 41st minute junior Savannah Jordan continued her dominant season by scoring her 13th goal off of a corner from Christen Westphal. Jordan not only leads the team, but also leads the nation in goals scored. The Wildcats evened things up early in the second half when Kaitlin Miller netted one in the 49th minute. Miller’s shot deflected off a player and went in the upper far corner. Despite the strong offense the Gators were showing they were unable to put the game away in regulation. In the overtimes Florida kept up an aggressive attack, but couldn’t find the net. The closest chance came in the second overtime when Jordan ripped a shot that went off the far post. The Gators had two shots go off the post/crossbar in this match. They outshot Kentucky 27-6 on the night. This was Florida’s first regular season tie since 2013 when they tied South Florida 1-1; the Gators tied twice last season but both were in tournament play. Tonight’s tie pushes the Gators to 8-3-1 (2-2-1 SEC) on the season and moves the Wildcats to 9-2-2 (3-1-1 SEC). UF is currently seventh in the SEC rankings, while Kentucky is tied for third. Up next for the Orange and Blue is an away conference match next Friday in Knoxville against rival Tennessee. Coverage for that game will be here on ESPN Gainesville 95.3.
