Florida Volleyball back from trip to Honolulu

The Gator volleyball team has returned to Gainesville after its three match campaign in Honolulu, Hawaii.  The Gators took down Eastern Washington this past Thursday in their opening game in Hawaii, 3-1.

The Gators faced a double header that Saturday against Hawaii and San Diego State.  Hawaii took the victory after five sets, handing Florida its first loss of the year. Coach Mary Wise and her team picked it back up later that night and swept San Diego State three games to none.

Finally back in Gainesville, Wise discussed how she was pleased with the play of the offense against tough teams they faced on the road.

“We can score offensively against some of the best teams in the nation and that would be Hawaii and Texas and Oregon and teams of that level,” she said.

This Thursday will be the first home game of the season for the Gators as they face St. John’s in the O’Dome.  Wise explains the strengths of St. John’s that they will face in the game.

“Whenever you’re playing the team who’s building confidence with wins you’re going to be getting them at their peak or at least one of their peaks…that’s what we’ll face with St. John’s on Thursday.”

After travelling from state to state, Wise and the team are glad to be back in Gator territory.

“I think it will really hit us when we go into the O’Connell Center on Thursday… I think our team is really excited to play in front of the Gator fans,” Wise said.

Florida and St. John’s will go head to head this Thursday at 7:00 PM in the O’Connell Center with live coverage on ESPN Gainesville/95.3 FM starting at 6:50 pm.
