The Florida softball team continues its winning ways in the College World Series with a 4-0 shutout of top seed Oregon on Friday.
Florida’s Bailey Castro hit a long solo homer in the second inning to get the scoring starter for Florida and she followed that up with an RBI single that gave the Gators a 2-0 lead.
Some insurance runs were scored on an odd play in the fourth inning. With Castro and Kirsti Merritt, who had walked, on base, Briana Little hit what looked to be a routine high pop up toward second base that was seemingly misplayed by the second baseman but it was called a double and both Castro and Merritt scored.
Those runs were more than enough for Hannah Rogers who has been sensational in the circle for the Gators in the postseason. She threw a three hit shutout and while not overpowering, Rogers was in total control in the circle.
The Gators will play again on Sunday against an opponent yet to be determined. Florida needs just one win to advance to the finals in the World Series.
