There’s a lot happening today in our Wednesday Sports Update…
** The SEC Baseball Tournament continues today in Hoover, Alabama after the first day of action yesterday. Florida plays today against Kentucky, a 7-1 winner over Alabama that eliminates the Crimson Tide. Vandy beat Tennessee 3-2; Mississippi State outlasts Georgia 5-4 and Arkansas blanks Texas A&M 4-0.
** In the big leagues, former Gator pitcher Anthony DeSclafani got his second start for the Miami Marlins and it was not as good as his first one; he took the loss while allowing five runs in just over five innings as the Marlins lost 6-5 to Philadelphia.
** Atlanta continues its recent hot streak, beating Milwaukee 5-0 while Tampa Bay is beaten 3-0 by Oakland.
** In the NBA playoffs, the Miami Heat even their Eastern Conference Finals series with Indiana with an 87-83 road win on Tuesday. Game 3 now shifts to Miami. Tonight, Game 2 between San Antonio and Oklahoma City with the Spurs up 1-0.
** The Charlotte Bobcats have officially changed their name back to the Charlotte Hornets, the original name of the franchise.
** Williston wins its first state baseball title since 1923 when it blanks Chipley 4-0 to win the Class 1A title yesterday.
** At the NFL owner’s meetings, Minneapolis was awarded the 2018 Super Bowl; the Vikings will have a new stadium in place to host the event.
