Two more SEC teams will be in NIT first round action tonight.
The Georgia Bulldogs earned an at-large berth in the 2014 National Invitation Tournament and will host Vermont in the first round Wednesday night. The Bulldogs (19-13, 12-6) will make their 12th appearance in the NIT and have gone 11-11 in previous NIT’s. The Bulldogs are a two seed; Vermont is a seven seed. Georgia lost 70-58 to the Kentucky Wildcats in the semifinals of the SEC tournament.
“We feel excited to be a part of the NIT, and obviously had a goal of advancing to the NCAA tournament. But in falling short of that, we’re certainly honored to be a part of a prestigious tournament,” Bulldogs head coach Mark Fox said.
Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.
The LSU Tigers will travel to San Francisco to face the San Francisco Dons. The game marks the first meeting between both teams; LSU is a five seed while San Francisco is a four seed. LSU (19-13, 9-9) lost to the Kentucky Wildcats 85-67 in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals.
“We’re excited to be in the field of 32 in the NIT. We certainly had a goal early on in the beginning of the season of making it into the NCAA Tournament, and thought we fell a few games short of putting ourselves in position to be in that tournament,” LSU head coach Johnny Jones said.
Tip-off is set for 10:00 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.
Arkansas and Missouri both advanced in the NIT after victories Tuesday night.
